Romney and Wise caught my eye or I should say ear yesterday. Romney backs out and Tim Wise was doing one of his White Privilege talks at Trinity College his week and it was on local TV last night. I caught the end of it when I got home from school last night. He is a very effective speaker - in person or on TV. I missed my NewsHour and Washington Week and NOW, but I caught the tail end of Bill Moyer's Journal where his political commentator made an interesting comment about the release of health records for ALL candidates not only McCain due to his age. She commented about Obama just "recently" giving up smoking and how that has more traceable health issues than McCain's age when you look at his gene pool 95 yr old mother who is more peppy than I am.
School play was great. It was a look at love through the eyes of various Shakespeare characters - the teacher/creator and the girls did an incredible job. I don't know how the girls memorized their parts - Shakespeare does not make it easy.
I got the lay of the land on the light box room. My goal is to start this a.m. and then do it every morning for at least a week and see if I "feel it". We will see. Our morning guests at work do not start arriving until 9 a.m. but "detention girls" arrive at 7:30 a.m. and they are going to help me get a mailing out today.
Next week is busy with "stuff" - Book Club (for which I have not read the book yet...), Dentist teeth cleaning appt (I LOVE getting my teeth cleaned), EDA meeting, Dance Workshop presentation (the girls not our staff/faculty group!), Dinner with friends on Friday (one of my ex-co-workers whose husband passed away in October), meet sisters #4,5 for a basketball game on Saturday; Oil change on my now 150,000+ miles car; then move into the next week when my house/niece sitting job begins right after I go to the wedding shower for a co-worker, we have our last big Open House Day for this school year - all this with a March 10 deadline for getting all enrollment contract offers out by March 10 which means all the girls' application files will have been read AND related financial aid requests...now you know why I thought this would be a good time to get some time in the light box room! February is the hated month in New England - people can feel that Spring will be here soon - but FIRST they have to get through cold and grey February. I guess that was another reason why I loved living in places that Valentine's Day was a put all the winter clothes and thoughts away!
Seeing Tim Wise and emails with event publicity from UNC reminded me that Black History month was passing me by. I have to really look at what the ebb and flow is of the Admissions Department is so I can make sure that I use up as much of my 6 weeks of vacation as I can this year and MAKE SURE that I schedule it securely for 2008-09 academic year.
My parents were talking about renting a cottage at the beach for a couple of weeks this summer where we went to the beach every year of my life until I graduated from college, but I thinking about asking sister #4 about the possibilities of renting some place around her beach for some time in June or as I think of that, just going to sister #3's place in Provincetown. I am thinking of just telling people they can come to me if they want to see me...we will see.
All this and of course the usual weekend fare - church, washing clothes, walking. I almost paid to get my nails done yesterday, but my cheapness moved me to make time for that last night when I got home last night. And talking about my cheapness - dinner at the dining hall was great last night - salmon. Cod cakes for lunch. They are going over the top on their fish on Friday commitment. I am not complaining.
Have a great weekend.
