I am letting other writers chronicle my life of late and today. Cosmic guidance, articles about events I was part of/will be attending, debate review (ugh!)...oh well. Yesterday was a beautiful day and instead of heading to Mt Holyoke to hear the lecture by the NOW reporter and her new documentary, I went for a long walk and came home to follow up with everyone who I could reach about our forum. I tried to watch some of the debate but it was too uncomfortable. It looks from the info below, David Brooks from NYTs thought it was not a good night for Obama. Tonight I will be off to U of H to hear a lecture by an architect about building in the 21st century.
Cosmic: "April 17, 2008 -- You may be laidback and easygoing by nature but anyone who thinks they can put one over on you is going to be disappointed - your eagle eye will spot their deception the moment it happens. What you do about it is up to you but make sure they know you know so they don't try it again."
"In order for some plants to thrive in the tropical forests of South America, they need bats to eat their fruits and poop out their seeds while flying around. Biologists call the bat excrement by a more lyrical name: seed rain. It's not too much of a stretch to invoke this relationship as an apt metaphor for your life right now, Libra. Like the bat-dependent plants, you now require the help of fertility agents whose work may be a bit messy."
Article about our Forum: "CANTON - — "Big Box" chain stores can provide a service to residents and help increase the local tax base, but they can also hurt nearby locally owned stores.
So said two retail experts Tuesday at Canton's third annual economic forum, held by the economic development agency. About 30 people from Canton and neighboring towns listened to Philip Langdon, a writer who specializes in "new urbanism" and mixed-use development, and Ronald Van Winkle, an economist who was consulted in the development of West Hartford's Blue Back Square.
Canton and the surrounding towns have been discussing how to increase their commercial tax base without bringing in more national retail chains like those along Route 44 in Canton, Simsbury and Avon."
Event being held at our school for Earth Day. I have lots to chose from on that day...
"The town is holding a "green summit" April 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the chapel at Ethel Walker School on Bushy Hill Road.
The public is invited to attend the summit and review the town's current environmentally friendly practices and explore other opportunities for Simsbury to become more eco-friendly. For more information, call the first selectman's office at 860-658-3230."
David Brooks on last night's debate:
"Final grades:
ABC: A
Clinton: B
Obama: D+"
Tonight's activity: "Architect James Wines will deliver a lecture titled "GREEN LIGHT – “Re-thinking Public Space in the 21st Century," on Thursday, April, 17, at 7 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium.
The lecture coincides with the opening of the 2008 Architecture Student Exhibit. The exhibit will open with a reception starting at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Student Exhibit will be held in the architecture design studios located in the lower level of the west wing of the Harry Jack Gray Center.
Wines is the president and founder of SITE Environmental Design, an architecture and environmental arts organization created for the purpose of exploring a more socially and environmentally responsive approach to the design of buildings, interiors, public spaces and commercial products."
Not sure about Dance Class - when the weather gets nice, the dance teacher likes to take off earlier and head home - I don't blame her.
Busy time of the year, but the weather is so energizing. Have a good Thursday.
