What an incredible surprise and gift last night! Walt Cunningham came from Dartmouth to Pomfret to guest conduct the school's Gospel Choir in their incredible campus Chapel - magnificent building. I was mesmerized. Unfortunately I did not see much of what the choir was doing, I could not take my eyes off Mr. Cunningham. My sister said he also gave a Chapel talk and the kids hung on every word! What a treat! Additional treat was meeting some of my sister's students - and being a celebrity hog as I am - Lowell Weicker's granddaughter; the daughter of a NYT Pulitzer Prize writer (can't remember the name) and we were all in the look out for Renee Zellweger who is a neighbor of the school and stops by at some of their programs.
The campus was so active on the weekend - unlike what our campus feels like - there was the Gospel Choir, kids were off to the NCAA Lax tournament, there was an outdoor concert out in one of the patio areas for the kids after the Gospel Choir, the beautiful student center was hopping, the gym was hopping (that is where I found my sister) - I can't figure out how girls pick our school over one like this one, but the all girl must be the trigger. And location may play into considerations too. Who knows.
The whole day worked. Left the house at 8-ish a.m., got my walk done, work done, drove to Pomfret and arrived back home at 10:30-ish p.m.
Today I will be off to church in a bit, off to parents, then off to brother's - but it should not be a late day. I have one "must do" - OSJL for coffee and toothpaste. The rest of my shopping list can wait.
Walt's message is in my mind today - give everything you do your all. Whatever one chooses to do, give it all your heart, your love, your life. I need to put some thoughtful consideration of that message. Inspiring day.
