Full Saturday of family

Feel good about progress made at work. Not that what I do is that significant, but I felt I had "done" something different from how not in control I feel about what will be happening with my mother over the next weeks. The other good news is I was at school for a good brunch - did that a lot last year, but not since school started this year.

After work, I headed to the hospital. It was a beautiful day out so I did make sure that sister #5 and I took a good walk around the hospital grounds. I am lucky the hospital is in such a nice setting with a great view of downtown Hartford - which looks to neat from far away...too bad the close up is not as beauteous.

Do feel a bit "monk-ish" when I am in the hospital. I am washing my hands like I am scrubbing for surgery. I just feel a bit surrounded by germs. Good timing as to my birthday month and a coupon I got from the UCONN women's center at the hospital. I gave it to sister #3 so she could get her afternoon coffee "on me".

Mother got out of bed yesterday with full support of the PT guy. It was pretty painful for her and for all of us (5 of her 6 kids were all there). The good thing was, we left my brother and mother by themselves to visit and when we came back - BOTH were sound asleep. The PT guy had to wake them up.

Adding insult to injury, on the way to the office in the a.m., I had to scrape my windshield on my car!!! Not ready for that. Luckily once the sun came out, it was comfortable.

After the hospital visit, 3 sisters headed to my school to watch sister #5's field hockey team play our school's team. It was a good break in the action. After the game we headed to Panera to get dinner for us and sister #3 who was at my parents' house. Sister #3 is continuing to stay, sister #5 spent last night, sister #4 headed home to RI. I headed home too. Panera's soup and sandwich combos gave everybody something they liked. Father had already taken care of his own dinner. Sister #5 had made his favorite cookies - shortbread - and sister #4 made apple crisp and brought some roasted chicken. Not like "back in the day" when neighbors would have buried us in casseroles by now. Just not the same these days. Nobody even eats casseroles anymore, forget know how to make them. I brought the Panera menu home for father so he can check the soup menu for when he is picking up dinner for himself.

Monday the conversation will start about which rehab place mother will be going to...I will leave that to sister #3 and father. I plan on putting in a full day at work. Too many cooks in the kitchen is a not a good thing with our family. I will be on call until sister #3 heads back to NYC.

Church, work, walk, hospital, home is my plan for the day.

No update from my son as to his dad's condition. I may give him a call today while I walk.

UNC showed no mercy on UCONN last night...don't even know what the football schedule is today.
