I was attracted to this crafty and - to me - peaceful picture. How simple things can be and still "be right" for the holidays. I needed that this morning. I am still smarting - but not in a sad way - from George Will's comment on Sunday a.m. TV about "how would people think anyone would be interested in reading about people's daily life on blogs". I guess my thought is that it is interesting to me and my thought is it may be interesting to other 50-somethings who find them unmarried, parent to a 20-something who is out and on his/her own, and who have or have contemplated pulling the plug on a life or lifestyle that looked to be working but made a dramatic move anyway and then to watch the aftermath of that move?
I use my journals to encourage myself to keep moving forward and hope it might speak to other people looking for encouragement to do what makes their heart sing. Of course, just when I think life makes sense something happens. Our office got a gift from one of the alums - a case of Zardetto Prosecco. If this is what she gifts to relative strangers...what do her immediate friends get? We all walked out with a bottle and I am going to make a suggestion to the boss how to distribute the rest. But how far that same money could have gone if it bought food for a food bank? Makes me look at what I should really be doing at this time of year.
But from that thought to this one: I did not do one thing on my list yesterday. Came home after work, did my wash, paid my rent for January, filled out a form for my new dentist - but no shopping or bead work. The first key to success for tonight is to not come home. My plan is to go to the bank at lunch time, then after work to the dry cleaners to drop off clothes I have had in my back seat for a week, then to the mall to look for a way to package my $ gift to my nieces and nephew, go to a Advent Penance Service at church at 7 p.m., then back to B&N to see if my other book is in yet - and then see what I feel like doing.
Interesting quotes from the Nuggets' coach yesterday. Did not do much to calm the post fight fire. Interesting comments on the sports' talk shows last night.
Plan to go out on Thursday night - my old roommate invited me to join her and other CCSU alums. I am looking forward to that. Will bring out my holiday jewelry for that event.
I am hoping that I do not go out to find flat tires. I had to drive through lots of accident debris last night. Someone a few minutes ahead of me had hit and killed a very large deer. Very sad sight.
We are getting very close to the shortest day of the year which means that they will only be getting longer from there. That is always a very encouraging day for me.
