I drove around Houston in my Hertz Crossfire...I felt "duped". Every time I walk up to a rent a car counter I know that the car I really need to be driving is $10 a day away from what I planned on paying. This trip was no different. "Sporty" as a descriptor is one thing, but two seater, NO trunk space, no option at all for a third passenger, the cruise control accelerator RIGHT next to the blinker made for some "exciting" moments on the highway. I never even figured out how to use the radio - regular or Sirius option. Not a good thing on a sports weekend and in a city where you don't go anywhere without getting in a car. I bet Hertz gets quite a few who take them up on their "take a look at it and see if you need to move to the bigger car". But at that point in the day - after the VERY long de-icing delay in Charlotte - I did not want to go back into any airport related buildings even if it meant riding in silence in a death trap car.
But the balance of the weekend was all good. Back in touch with people who have been with me during so many major life events, a friend who I had not seen since 1977-78 (who is very crafty and gave me a plaque that she made that says "Live Free, Harm None" - guess even in the 70's people could "read" what I want to hear), 65 degrees and sunny for one day of my trip (but as we talked about Houston's weather is never what people travel there for...), being a part of the biggest crowd to ever watch a Texas A&M basketball game, good TexMex food - I am lucky to be able to pop back into these "past settings" and do some "checks" on where I am and where I want to be going.
More later. Need to crank up my work pace today. Took me quite awhile yesterday to get my focus back on work.
