Good day on Monday. I had a work plan, but then new things landed on my desk and I moved forward from there. Busy from 6:15 a.m. start until 4:30 p.m. finish followed by an hour walk. Good day all around. I am still taking part in a very odd "afternoon break" with the College Counseling department (2 people) for tea and I took a whole 30 minutes for lunch yesterday. I felt very relaxed. Today I am thinking I will lose a bit of that relaxed feeling with the boss due back on Wednesday, but then she is taking comp time off Thursday and Friday since she has to work this weekend in CA. The concept SO loses me! But I guess the way I work loses a lot of people too. I expect a bit more energy and a bit more nose to the grindstone from people new to a company in a leadership position. She will have plenty more "comp time" available in years to come is she greats a big bang with her first year. But the good news for her, bad news for me is the school is positioned to reap benefits because of what IT is rather than what she brings to the table. Oh well.
Another good day part of Monday was book club. Everybody liked RUN and Patchett. We got our book list for 2009 Jan-June. I took the leader seat for May. Hope I like the book - Before You Know Kindness by C. Bohjalian. I am hoping it is a "how to" book!
I am going to work on my resume and cover letter this weekend for the job my friend told me about. Even if it is not a match, I need to step away from the new boss and allow her to get someone in my position that likes her and supports her way of work in a more sympathetic manner.
Usually on my way to work at this time - not even out of my pajamas yet. Do want to get to work and enjoy today. No plan for tonight - do need to bring my scarf for my walk tonight - it got a bit chilly.
Have a great Tuesday.
PS: my shoes were efficiently delivered to my work address yesterday! Famous Footwear didn't let me down. A rarity in my retail experience world (which I know is very limited, but a good story is still a good story) Also, I left my attitude at the door and went into Starbuck's last night to get a gift card for my student worker - in this season of Thanksgiving approach. She is an international student, so I hope she gets the timing of my gift. But she has been great this semester! She has done more for me this semester than the 3 student workers I had last year...the work ethic of today's American youth leaves a bit to be desired, especially in my school setting where so many come from a setting where a part time job or watching spending is not a necessary concept or part of their skill set development.
