12 hours of sports talk radio right after the Plaxico Burress deal (not many streets from where were in NYC on Friday...but we are at Dylan's Candy store) life could not be much better than that. And I got to listen to 3 hours of Jim Rome Show. Can't remember the last time I had heard his show. Good trip, good weather, no traffic. Relaxing trip.
Got on 84 in CT at 4:30 a.m. and got off 15-501 in Chapel Hill at 3:30 p.m. Not my fastest trip but definitely one of the most enjoyable. I took a walk around my old neighborhood - Meadowmont - and called some people in town to tell them I made it and to expect me momentarily. I did get a look at the very cool penthouse apartment that Butch Davis is living in. Unfortunately just from the ground outside looking up! Incredible spot, blocks from Roy Williams' house. Very neat neighborhood for a sports fan.
Got to Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, NC (where I used to sell real estate) and then was directed to get into my friend's car and we were off to dinner. Town Hall Grill in Southern Village. Great restaurant for one of my favorite salads and some wine. I was exhausted when I started the meal, but got my second wind. We were almost the last people out of the restaurant.
Back to Fearrington (10 miles south of Chapel Hill) and to bed! I had now been up about 20 hours...I was not a pretty picture.
Today was a whirlwind of visits - walking with one friend and coffee after with her and her husband; then to visit more people, then to lunch with some of the people in the construction warehouse who had made me a great travel basket with a "Queen of the Road" deal to hang from my rearview mirror and snacks and a great card - I almost started crying at Allen & Sons Barbecue -my favorite Carolina barbecue place (pork not beef, vinegar not sauce); then into Chapel Hill to bring my money advisor a bottle of wine (I was thinking he was not getting much love from his clients right now) and see another friend (and my hostess for Saturday night), then back to Fearrington to visit one more group and then to dinner with another. I am now "home" waiting for my hostess to get home so she can finish a good story she was telling me about her latest boyfriend.
I am on overload to say the least, but in a completely and totally good way. Great conversations today - and as always - "no coincidence" that I picked the people I did to visit. I heard what I needed to hear and talked out lots of things on my mind about what I am up to in my life.
