More holiday developments

Our state capitol was not on my route last night but not far off my path. But that was my night, first my day. We had a going away party at lunch time for one of my co-workers going along with the announcement of another that she would not be renewing her contract as of July 1. To most people the on-going and prospect for change would be unsettling but for me it gets my juices flowing. The person who we were having the party for pulled me aside and said she recommended me as her replacement...I am not even out of probabation on my current assignment! I am thinking long and hard as to put my hat in the ring. More money, more independent position - we will see what develops.
Waiting to see what I have waiting for me from UPS and a friend from NC. It was received by the school loading dock personnel on Thursday, but it didn't quite make it to me. We will see what arrives at my office today. But I did get my school Christmas card from the Head of School and my $10 Starbucks card - you KNOW what I will buying with that!
Now to Hartford - I met my former college roommate (I felt I should stop saying "old" roommate) and 6 of her friends for dinner at a great Italian restaurant in the south end of Hartford. I always benefit from when the man she is dating isn't acting right. Way too much food, a very good glass of Chianti and amazing conversation from a table of dedicated teachers - 25 years, 35 years of service, good works on top of good works. Nothing but success stories about their work and their kids. I wish teachers like them got more press! They all talk about retirement, but then they say "but I have such a good class this year, I want to see them finish" or "there are two kids I want to make sure get to college" - not one selfish motivation mentioned just the feeling they get from being an aid to their kids achieving their goals. Good food and good spirit - this was a true holiday event. Warmed my heart. My heart was also warmed by the fact that my roomate got tickets for CCSU-Vermont basketball game next Thursday. I pay at the window, she calls the AD! I think I will not be in the bleacher seats for this game.
Well, off to work. I don't think I will have much traffic on the road today. Check engine light still on, good news is that the car place is open the day after Christmas so I can drop it off and borrow my father's car while my son is here to help me shuttle the car back and forth - but it a lot different travel patten than I usually had at holiday time. Living close to family makes for easier commutes. I feel bad for people sitting in Denver! 19 inches of snow and people sitting for 2 days in the airport - not a pretty picture.
Two more days of shopping...still have a couple of things to get. Sister #5's birthday is the day after Christmas so she needs double coverage!
