Got the call on Friday night from sisters #4 & 5 setting up our dinner for Saturday at 4:30. Sister #4 had a basketball tournament she was coaching in at her school and sister #5 was shopping in Massachusetts with her daughter so 4:30 p.m. could directly from one activity to another. Worked for me. The ceramics teacher did not show up on Saturday a.m., but the chance that she would be there got me up and going. So I left her a note on the ceramic's room door and headed into my parents' house. My mother had some pictures sister #5 wanted for a yearbook project her students are doing...she is the class advisor and they wanted baby pictures...sounds risky to me, but she was happy to hand them over. While I was there I read the local paper to check and see if my hometown high won its basketball game against our ARCH rival - it is historic - same ARCH rival as when I was in school. Glad to see that we won. I called my neighbor Saturday to tell her that she did not miss anything as the ceramics' teacher did not show up, but I also got to talk to her daughter who was at the game. Fans are a bit more rabid these days.
On the way home from my parents' I stopped at Big Y to get my supplies for the wine and cheese party our Administrative Assistants Group is hosting for faculty and staff on Friday night. I am making brownies, and avocado/mozzarella/tomato with balsamic vinegar dish.
Once home I decided that instead of taking my walk around the neighborhood I would head to the beach on the way to my dinner date. I also called my college roommate to see if she wanted to meet us for dinner. She teaches a weekend class at the Submarine Base some Saturdays and she is now referred to as "our other sister", so I reached her at IKEA buying stuff for her daughter who lives in Charlotte NC and she said she would love to join us even though this was not one of her New London teaching Saturdays. So now it was a party of 5 at Chili's in New London CT. But on the way I stopped at the beach our family went to every summer from the time I was 5 to 23. It is where we had my college graduation party. So I decided that is where I would take my walk (an hour away from where I live). It was snowing in that part of the state in the a.m. but unfortunately it had stopped before I got there - it is beautiful to be at the beach when it is snowing - falling from the sky then dissolving as it hits the water or the sand - I think that is because of the salt but that may be a fact or fiction item from my past thinking. I have to keep reminding myself that the beach is not far from where I live. It was an easy ride - two turns and I am on the beach - Rt 4 to 9 to 95. I always remember the exit for our beach - same year as I graduated from high school.
Dinner was fun. Our other sister gave sister #4 a gift certificate for the restaurant we were at and sister #5 and I gave her the gift certificate to the holistic medicine place owned by a parent of one of her students. Acupuncture, massage, whatever she wants. She had gone to an opening event and was very taken with the acupuncture. We will see.
Now I am getting ready to go for my walk and then become one with my couch for the Super Bowl. If I cannot be at my friend's house in NC, I am happy to watch by myself. I am gearing up for my post-Board of Trustees meetings/pre-vacation week at work. I will be off to Brooklyn on Saturday morning, watch a show at Brooklyn Arts Exchange (where my son will be working), hand over my "seed money" check to my son, then head out Sunday a.m. for North Carolina. I will be there until Friday a.m. Feb 16 - want to be back to see a basketball game on Saturday at sister #5's school, where a friend of sister #4's will be coaching the opposing team so we will all gather at Pomfret. Then on Sunday, Feb 18, my mother is having a mass for a friend of hers at my church (our family church while we were all growing up) that I want to be at.
Yesterday's sports - NC State over UNC!!! Texas A&M over Kansas!!! Oklahoma State lost to Colorado, but JameSon was high scorer and it was noted that he has scored in double digits every game this season.
Talked to my son the other day and he is fine with the timing of getting my money. I have a tendency to over think "a bit"...
On that note: my cosmic direction for this week: February 4, 2007 -- Forget about work for a while and spend some quality time with those you love. Okay, so you won't be able to forget about work completely but you can make a conscious effort to get organized and get your daily chores out of the way before the Sun goes down. The only reason you have been under pressure of late is because you allow your work to drag on too long.
I do not feel much pressure at work these days, but I guess "the stars" are in line as to my pre-vacation thinking as to what do I want to get done before I leave the office.
Have a good week.
