150,000 miles, Bill Walton, lazy Saturday

Friday was a slow day - a couple of visits, but most applicants did not want to visit with no kids on campus. The dining hall closed after lunch, so I ate big! The boss told everyone to leave at 3:30 p.m. which I did not do, but I did leave for my walk at 4:30 p.m. and did not return to the office. Stopped for gas on the way home and looked down to see 150,000 - 150,000 miles driven since September, 2000 or about 21,000 miles a year...and that was my NC/CT average SINCE I left my 500 miles a week commute in Houston life. I guess all those trips from NC to FL added up. I have to start wondering about either making my check engine light go out or getting a new car by June 2008. Lots of time to think about it, but when it comes to that kind of purchase...it is never enough. Friday night I watched my full complement of news shows and had a glass of wine. Very relaxing and informative night.

Saturday morning was the laziest I have been in weeks. I did not get out of the house until noon. I had two calls - one from NC and one from TX - both spurred by the NY Times article about private high schools and their endowments...my school was not on the list but I am sure that the article will cause a buzz on campus once everybody gets back on Tuesday. At noon I headed into my parents - wash clothes, food, reading magazines, my book club book - I was a slug. Then I stopped by the office for 30 minutes and went to church. Home to clean the house. When I was done with that, I made "the mistake" of getting hooked on watching "Pretty Woman" - that and Dirty Dancing always push me to tears. I want a "Richard Gere" to come into my life to rescue me and let me "rescue him back" (to steal the last line from the movie last night) but of course my Richard Gere is Rick Majerus. It would take a bigger fire escape to handle the "rescue" scene, but it would a scene to say the least. I did question my judgment for a minute this morning as I read the SI article word for word today. But it made "the match" I feel with him even more pronounced. Which I don't know what that says about me but...it would be worth a try to see if it would work.

This morning is another slug morning. I am off to a music presentation at a local library at 3 p.m. Also want to check with my travel agent to see if she would recommend 1) Atlantic City for the Atlantic 10 tournament; 2) St Croix or 3)Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas for my March 12-19 vacation. My friend from TX has decided to accompany her husband to St Croix for the week so that put my vacation plans into a spin again.

My new favorite area near my parents' house is even more favorite after I read the article in the newspaper that Bill Walton is living in the area while he is working at ESPN and he and his wife like Max's Oyster Bar...I need to take a few more spins in the area. He will not be hard to spot.

Started reading my book club book yesterday. It did not catch me, but I might crawl back into bed and read some more today. Of course, it is Q&A night.

Have a good Sunday.
