Sunday was an interesting day. I watched all my talking heads shows then could not find a direction for my day, so I took "Hug Your People" by Jack Mitchell got in my car, went to the parking lot of Big Y shopping center (it was so sunny out, but too cool to sit outside and read), got an order of Five Guys french fries, and sat in my car and read my book for 2 hours. Strange but very comfortable and enjoyable mid day. When I got home, I could not put the book down, so I sat on my couch and finished it then went for a walk and wandered quite awhile. I watched the tail end of the last basketball game when I got back inside and then Q&A with Roger Mudd. Long time no see for Roger Mudd, but it did bring back a lot of memories and thoughts about the time when network news was king - 1960's and 70's - and there was plenty to report about. Second part of his interview will be on this Sunday night.
Yesterday I shared some thoughts from my reading with the Head of School and the newly announced new Assistant Head of School - a crony of the Head of School, which I have issues with, but I will let that sink in for a minute to see if he might be the conduit I was looking for... I also heard that one of my favorite teachers is leaving. The reassignment of his campus house will be a big deal - we will see how the HOS deals with that. I also shared with the new AHOS that HOS has a bad habit that everyone talks about but I don't know if anyone ever said anything to her - misspelling a staff person's name in almost any email she sends out. Again, maybe this AHOS will work for me. I know my boss does not have the HOS' ear, but the AHOS definitely does.
Worked a bit late last night and had a long phone conversation with a parent of a student coming to our school from France. I finally had to ask her what the time was there and my figuring was correct, it was 1 a.m. in the morning on Tuesday in France...I finally told her "Have a good morning, I am going home". I was also working on materials for our ASVD on Friday. I have student helpers come in on Tuesday so I wanted to make sure I had enough to keep them busy.
I am very excited about my bus trip to PA on Saturday to canvas for Obama. I also ran into a former classmate's brother and his wife on our walks on Sunday and I said I am ready to sign up for his State Senate campaign - and write the check. Luckily CT has a new campaign reform plan so the max I could give is $100 as he tries to qualify for state election funds. I can do that and the fact that he is Republican does not bother me. As to local politics - it is the person over the party. I trust him to make good decisions.
Better get going. Have a good Tuesday.
