Woke up at my usual time this morning so things are all falling back into place. Yesterday was not as grueling, but I was wondering if my hike up Talcott Mtn might have taken its toll. I followed it up with a quick swim at the town pool so I think that helped. Heublein Tower (at the top of the mountain) is a beautiful place with a family story behind it. At some point before 1974, a friend of my father's was a group of investors who bought the tower with hopes of some type of project - that never came to fruition.
"Located atop Talcott Mountain in Simsbury, CT, is where you will find this week's subject, Heublein Tower. Built in 1914 by Gilbert Heublein as a summer home and retreat, this structure is truly an architectural marvel. Mr. Heublein modeled this structure after buildings in his native homeland of Bavaria. Standing 165 feet tall and 1,000 ft. above the Farmington Valley, one can see for several hundred miles in all directions.
The property on which the tower is located totals approximately 350 continuous acres along the mountain ridge and is part of Talcott Mountain State Park. You can access the tower via a foot trail. The trail itself is about 1.5 miles long and it takes about 30 - 40 minutes to reach the tower. The tower is now owned by the state of Connecticut."
It was a good variation to my regular walking routine.
Other than that, not much excitement in the day. Boss is due back today. We will be celebrating her birthday this afternoon.
I have been reading up on the 7 Daughters White and Red Blends. I will have to ask my local spirit shop if they have them in the store. http://www.7daughters.com/
Plan for tonight - I have volunteered to make some phone calls for a local politician who has an August 12 primary election to set the slate for our Nov election for State Senate. He is a Republican, but I feel he is the man for best representing our town's best interest.
Obama's birthday yesterday - along with my late aunt. I called my cousin. Always think of her on Aunt Nancy's birthday. Made no calls in relation to Obama's.
Have a good Tuesday.
