When my mother fell on September 30 and then was readmitted on October 1 and - lots of x-rays and cat scans and MRI were done and her right side was looked at - ribs, shoulder, elbow BUT not the wrist. So yesterday when her wrist started to swell a bit, they took an x-ray at "the home" and a dislocated fracture was found...here we have had her using that wrist to use walkers and PT (only 2 days possible of the last 2+ weeks) and she has a broken wrist!!! Who did not connect the dots on that one?
So at 3:30 p.m. I left work and headed to the home and sister #3, her partner and I were sitting in sister #3's office (the empty room next to mother at "the home") and we were chatting while mother was sleeping and then we went into her room at 5:30 p.m. to wait for her dinner tray and we find my father!!! He does not come to "the home" after 4 p.m. so we did not know what was up. I guess the home help could not find us so they called my father. They said they found the fracture in her wrist and she needed to go to the ER!!! NO! Not today, not Friday night, not today! Sister #3 and my father spoke to the home help and it was decided it would be immobilized but we will need to get it set on Monday. Between now and then we want to try and find a "mobile doctor unit" that will take care of this. Mother had an incredibly bad day yesterday with pain in her legs. I called my brother at lunch time (he had told me the night before he was going to head in for lunch) to let him know that the relatively good report I gave him on Thursday night did not hold for Friday. He was still at "the home" when I got there at 4 p.m. He left shortly after, but that was a long lunch visit.
Sister #1 is due in today. Sister #3 is supposed to be leaving on Sunday. I wonder if she will be able to leave.
Other than "the home", it was a busy day at work. We admitted the girl from El Salvador who wants to start school on Monday. Not a bad turnaround time on that application - 1 week. She is a dual citizen - US/El Salvador so it made it much more manageable. The tent went up behind my office for Parents Weekend next weekend. It was like an eclipse during the day as the sun was wiped out by the raising of the tent. I am thinking I will run into a post at some point this week as I walk out of my office and forget that it is there.
My task is to order all mother's medical records. I want to see what they say about x-rays done and all the other details.
Off to work in a few minutes, then to parents house, then "the home", then we will see what the day brings. Coffee house at a friend's church - but I hope to be in bed by then at this point in my day. We will see.
Have a good Saturday. It is a cool, soon to be sunny, Fall day here. I will try to get my walk in.
