I got the call after lunch that mother would be moving back to the Rehab on Wednesday. When I got to the hospital at 3:30 p.m., sister #3 had written on the whiteboard the nurses use to give the patient info as to who is on duty and what the plan for the day is, she had written under patient activities "Escape". It is such a love/hate deal. I hope they have the health care she needs at the Rehab, but I know the circus at the hospital was more than she could take anymore. They so forgot that broken ribs began this episode on September 30 that they sent her back to rehab with no orders for pain medication...As I said many times, someone at the hospital should have read ALL the chapters of my mother's recent medical book not just the last chapter - and it seems like they skimmed the last chapter at that. Incredible. They were moving her and doing BP checks with no thought to her right side still being bruised and broken. Incredible. My father has a meeting at the hospital today to share some of his issues. He needs to advocate for his wife since no one in the hospital system seemed to take on that role. I am also going to be contacting my congress people as soon as I see the election results to make sure that UCONN Medical Center is given a run for its money to get anymore state funds for expansion. I also want to become active in making sure that "universal health care" does not just give bad care to even more people AND that I have the option to opt out so that they will not touch me if anything happens.
Probably good that I have the day off from "coverage" today. Sister #3's partner is coming up so I do not have to leave work early or skip my walk. I will walk - even it it might be raining. I missed the nicest day of the year yesterday, but the good news is that if we had been going through the last two weeks in bad weather...that would not have been good.
My sister and I were the "transport team" to get mother out of the hospital - we could not face waiting any longer to get her out. Our "stat" transcription order of the medical records only took 4 1/2 hours this time...not bad since the "window" is supposed to be two. But sister #3 did not think that going in her Volvo would be anymore uncomfortable than the wheelchair van and we got to the rehab center before it got dark.
Missed my reappointment interview again at the Bd of Selectmen meeting last night. But I did not resign. I will wait until I see what the next few weeks look like in my life. Missed the author talk with the author of Waiting for Snow in Havana.
Sorry about the Dodgers. Sorry about the financial markets. Sorry about the elections. Maybe this all happened with my mom so I would not focus on anything but the immediate family news.
I need everything to settle down so I can go to the Woofmen reunion on Nov 8!
