Wednesday

Very interesting Tuesday. Stormy weather wise and a little storm in daily life. Left early a bit earlier than anticipated, but stopped by on the way home. I cried during the Celtic ring/raise the banner ceremony - me and Paul Pierce. I don't even follow the Celtics that much, but I got swept up in the emotion and the wine. I left out of the email that my friends greeted me at their house with homemade soup, a fire going in the fireplace, Celtics' ceremony on the TV and a glass of wine! Great end of the day.

Can't get my computer to give me the real time - guess I will just wait until Sunday when life catches up with my laptop.

Not sure what to expect at work today. Boss is out of town again. She is staying in the office as little as possible...She has a meeting with the HOS on Monday when she gets back to town...wonder what that is about.

Here is a mini update from yesterday.

Email update to siblings: "Headed into WH a bit earlier than earlier. Father called to say he couldn't go over to see mother but would I pick up her absentee ballot for her to fill out. He wasn't feeling too good (sleep/Zolaf (sp) and had called the doctor's office (UCONN Geriatric Dept...) at 8:30 a.m. and was still waiting for a call back at 2 p.m. I headed in to see what was up - the sleep thing was still the deal. So I picked up the ballot and went to the home. I did ask if he wanted me to jump in and call the doctor's office, but he said no. I went to the home to find mother with a pain in her right shoulder. I am thinking it was a steroid induced "workout" injury. I asked her "on a scale of 1-10, what is the pain?" and she said 2. I told her to make sure she asked for one more Tylenol before she went to bed.

Shelly Grace came by with another Edible Arrangement. Father said he would take it all but the strawberries and grapes. I went over to the house and disassembled the arrangement. And then off to West Hartford Center to deliver mother's ballot and have an interview at the Volunteer Services office. Before Sept 30, I had planned to start volunteering at HANOC (Hillcrest Area Neighborhood Outreach Center). I had my interview and can start whenever I want, but I told the coordinator...I might not have a lot of free time on my hands for a bit...no problem. Then back to the home to find out from mother that as of 5 p.m., father had not had a call back yet. I decided to get involved. I called UCONN Medical Center and asked for the "Geriatric Attending" (I know the lingo now) and after raising my voice "a bit" I was connected with Dr. Kenny. She called father at 5:15 p.m. He felt much better after talking to her. I will check today to see if someone followed up with him as Dr. Kenny said they would.

Mother got a customer service Survey for the UCONN Emergency room operation. I am waiting on the 4th Floor survey and hospital system in general. I guess I better start writing about "consistency of care" issues.

On the way home I stopped at the deSimas household. Mrs. deSimas' prayer shawl ministry made mother a shawl. I hope she will like it. And she had homemade soup for me waiting for me to sit down and watch the Celtics' ring ceremony with them. It was just what I needed. Fire was going, Celtics crying, and homemade soup.

Sister #3 - if you need an extra day in NYC while mother is in the rehab, I think things are doing OK up here and Stephen opens and closes the day, Dad in the middle, PT and me from 3:30-6 p.m. The coverage seems to work. Yesterday was a bit of a glitch, but nothing "structural". I think the rain storm threw all our games off. Janell (sp?) and the nurse said to tell you that things are working well.

Sister #5 has a game at Ms. Porters this Saturday so she will come up before the game like she did last time she had a game in the area.

Sister #1 - hope you are enjoying your new job!

Sister #4 - the RI family made their appt to come up to visit Ethel.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday."
