Friday at work was busy and I always like that (and the boss was still out of town so my work lifeblood was not drained out of me). One of our applicant's parent is Editor in Chief of a magazine I had contacted in the past re my writing and sharing my life with - I will be checking to see if this is one of my "no coincidence" situations. After work I checked in the with parents to see how the Friday doctor appt went - the following is a recap in an email I sent to my siblings this a.m.
"Very interesting follow up to mother's doctors' appts this week. Brother was present for both (THANK YOU!) and after a 45 minute wait to see the rheumatoid guy on Tuesday and a question Dr. Lane brought up on Friday. Unbeknownst to each other, my brother and I both felt the need to "reach out" to the UCONN Geriatrics department. I thought I was pretty successful by my reaching a doctor on Friday night and having that doctor call father to answer his question on Saturday morning BUT my brother hit the mother lode! Between 3-5 p.m. on Friday afternoon he actually spoke to "the man" Dr. Coll!!!! And Dr. Coll called Dr. Lane and Dr. Lane called father all before 6 p.m.!!!! Wow! Not saying that there are no questions left, but I am so impressed that my brother got through to Dr. Coll. My Dr. Issac (sp) is so far down the Geriatric food chain, I am almost embarrassed. Oh well. The question was not dire, but it all got back to the inability to get people to respond from the Geriatrics department. And they still have mother as 76 yrs old in the computer. Dr. Issac did email Dr. Coll about his Friday conversation with me and Saturday conversation with father.
After all the conversations, the thought as sister #4 and I had pizza with the parents yesterday, if mother falls ill again, I would think we might want to find a hospital in another state...But Dr. Issac did suggest that if they stay in the Center for Aging, they might want to move off Thursday as their appt day of the week based on the doctors who are assigned the Thursday clinic hours. But father has already been talking to someone about finding another primary care doctor.
Mother did bring up a question about her eye sight when we were talking yesterday - is this something we should push for her to have looked at?
Everything else looked good to my eye."
I ended Friday and started Saturday reading and finishing my second Patchett book - Bel Canto. I loved it. I will have to see if she has other books I need to read. RUN worked for me because of the "no coincidence" theme and the dysfunctional family with family members in dire straights in the hospital and Bel Canto is another "no coincidence" story that takes place in a Quechua speaking LA country!!! The native language of my Peace Corps country was Quechua. Patchett speaks my language on so many levels. No classics but I love the twists and turns of her people oriented books. Gives me hope for a good twist and/or turn happening in my life. Or maybe that is the book I need to write - figure out how to twist and turn my life to where I aspire to be, even if only on paper. Might be the first step to getting there.
The rainy Saturday helped my reading and getting some time in at work. I did get a quick walk in and church, so it all worked. The first reading at church got my attention as it was about husbands and wives and November 15, 2008 would have been my 28th wedding anniversary - IF my husband had not left (thank god!) during our anniversary week 1996.
The weather was a factor in many places of note yesterday - eastern North Carolina and in Southern California. First location of personal note, the second - my boss is driving from San Francisco to LA yesterday or today...she has a dark cloud over her major travel trips this year. Hurricane when she want to Houston and Dallas early this fall, wild fires and Santa Ana winds on her CA trip. I try not to gloat, but it is so hard...
As I reported on my 7000+ miles on my car, a friend who got a new car within weeks of mine, has not even cracked 3000 and I am thinking she is not planning to drive to North Carolina in a couple of weeks...
Also came home on Friday to find that they tried to deliver my replacement shoes from Famous Footwear on Friday, but signature required so no go. Changed the delivery address to school, so hope to see them on Monday. I am so a Famous Footwear fan!
Yesterday morning I did not sit down at the computer in the a.m. because I was reading then I decided I would go in and have pizza lunch with sister #4 and the parents so I had to keep moving if I was going to do that and stopping in to work for a minute on the way in to see what I was up against as to new news on the computer or phone. I am trying to hate what I do because I do not like the new boss, but I can't let go of trying to be a part of meeting our school enrollment goals. I would love to see her fall on her face, but that would not be good for the school.
A friend (the low mileage person) also shared with me about a job opening at a University in southern CT. hmmm...always love new news like that. She is very in tune with my need to always be on the look out for "what's next".
Could not sleep past 2:30 a.m. this morning with all my work lists - already obsessing about being out of the office Dec 3-8...shot an email off to my boss and forwarded it to the AHOS for his looksee as to what is on my mind.
Will head into the office this a.m. (but a bit later) and then I hope to curl up and watch football and nap. We will see. I am not in the mood to watch the Sunday talking heads' shows - can't listen any more to the money crisis news or Obama's transition. The thought of applying did occur to me. Live with sister #1 and be a tireless worker on behalf of our new President...
Have a good Sunday.

I am too a big fan of Famous Footwear.
I can't wait to get my shoes today! From my experience, I think Famous Footwear is a good model for customer service. (I might look at their company annual report to see if it is working for them financially.) I wonder why it works for them and not for thousands of other companies in the world...doesn't seem like rocket science. I am thinking I should see if anyone from the UCONN Medical Center "Patient Relations" department wants to do an internship at Famous Footwear?
