Yesterday I could not get in the car so that limited my travel sphere but it was a perfect post NYC overload day. We had a great day 8:25 a.m. train in, 7:07 p.m. train out. We decided that we could have spent all day in Grand Central and the Bryant Park "shopping area" and skating rink that had been set up. Lots of incredible crafts - I am not a buyer, but I love to see where others' creativity leads them. But we had more stops, so we kept moving. Down to Times Square so my niece and I could go to the Barbie House in Times Square Toys R Us. Not what I had thought it would be (I guess I expected Barbie and Ken to meet me at the front door...) but it was certainly not a recession-y looking place - AT ANY PLACE WE WENT IN THE CITY FOR THAT MATTER. Fun and sad to watch for me.
After Barbie, we moved to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and another skating rink. Stopped by Crabtree Evelyn because we all needed to sample the hand cream. Then on to 5th Avenue to St Patricks Cathedral, Saks Windows (one thing that has been scaled down). My suggestion to go to the Museum of American Folk Art did not get a go. I will make that part of my next solo trip. We kept moving toward Central Park and to get ready to make our turn off 5th Avenue to move toward 60th and 3rd for lunch and Dylan's Candy Store. Our big surprise was as we sat at a great corner table at 360 Brassiere (sp) we saw this line of Escalades pull up to the candy store and out came Beckham, Posh and the kids surrounded by "suits" who were pushing and shoving paparazzi aside. That was the first time I ever saw what I have seen on TV so often. Pretty strange.
After lunch, we were joined by two more sisters and a niece and we stopped at a few stores (I stay outside and watch people) and then headed to Brooklyn. I now know the way to get to Brooklyn by subway from 57th and 6th - good for the future. Met my son and his lady friend at sister #3's. Then her partner was very gracious and drove up from Brooklyn to Grand Central and we got a great view of the UN side of Manhattan. I have a whole new plan for my next visit and NYC walking tour. I was home in bed by 10:30 p.m. Great day.
But with all of that under my belt for Friday, Saturday took a finish my book, do wash, clean the house, take a long walk, visit with some friends on my walking route, walked to church, came back and watched a bit of the OK vs OKS football game, then some of a C-SPAN show then to bed. Very relaxing day and not a minute in the car.
Today - office, walk, parents, library for a vacation book. Three day work week last week, 2 day this week. Will head to NC on Wednesday morning.
Have to check the sports to see who won the OK-OKS game, ND-USC game, Burris gun shot news...
Have a good Sunday.
