Here we go again. Here is part of an email to my siblings about parents' latest medical merry-go-round:
"Lots of sitting and talking at the appt on Thursday - no procedures. Another appt on Wednesday with Dr. Spiro. I am going to take him to that one. Seems that the "closer" of the Thursday appt was the answer to father's question "What if I don't do anything?" "One year" was the answer. To my mind that would be a "Hooray for Hollywood" moment at 91. I would take it now at 58. Have the opportunity to plan, medicinal marijuana was just approved by the state legislature (I do not say that in jest), get Peapod and Dial a Ride on speed dial for mother (and father as things progress), get homecare personnel in place to do all the medicine distribution OR the doctors are dead beat wrong and he will live on without being cut on (head and neck area) and risk collateral damage. I am also curious as to paperwork - POA's, Health Care POA's. If someone has that info, let me know or I will ask our father on Wednesday.
Father had the AC guy from SK Lavery come and replace the AC unit upstairs, but when father when up to show the guy the issue he had - it was "an operator problem" unfortunately for SK Lavery it was discovered after he put in a new AC. But now upstairs and downstairs are working. Then yesterday before he went to the doctor, he took his car to his favorite Firestone shop for an oil change and they said the car needed a tune up so he took it back today for $600+ of preventative maintenance work and he told me it was going to take an hour, but mother calls me at 4:30 p.m. and it is going to take 3 hours. I called Firestone to see what was up and "Kevin" said our father was told the $ and the time of the appt when he was there yesterday. For a car with 60,000 after 10 years...I told Kevin he might be a bit too aggressive in their prevention. Get the news of one year left and the next day $600 worth of preventative maintenance on my car?? Not me, but nobody aspires to that! Oh well."
Lots to think about and doing it at my favorite JDH...it is going to be a long week.
Have a nice weekend.
