Monday - new job, same location

Looks like I am going to stay put. I got the offer to go across the street - that gets me away from my current boss which I know will be a good thing for me and will allow her to tighten the circle of people she has to share with - which she will feel is good for her. I let the other school know that I was staying put. They were very nice and I am glad I have introduced myself to them. I may have to join the pool at the other school for the winter to keep "my foot in that pond" - literally and figuratively.

Other than that - book club was good. Dance teacher said she will be putting out the email about the staff/faculty dance class starting up - which she knows I am very excited about. I am not looking forward to the next couple of weeks of working both sides of the road as I wrap things up and start things up.

Town volunteer committee work starts tonight - hope they like me...

Better get going. Have a good Tuesday.

More distractions from CSPAN and my book

Plugging away at some projects yesterday and preparing for more. Campus is buzzing as all the teachers are back and the kids will be arriving soon. Last night I was next to last to leave the office and at that point all I could think about was mailing off my thank you notes to my other school interview participants and take a swim at my brother's pool. I had a nice visit with him and niece #3 while sister in law was at Pilate's class. But it did mean I missed the News Hour and read exactly one page of my book club book...I did watch a bit of Bush's trip to New Orleans, but that is too maddening for me to watch. What a fiasco on so many levels. There are spots of sunshine, but the big picture - to me - is maddening.

I looked ahead for Sunday's Q&A - La Hood from IL. We seem to be focused on those Midwest politicians. I can't wait. Some people look forward to the next episode of The Sopranos, Sex and the City or Desperate Housewives - me, Brian Lamb and Q&A! Could I be more boring?

Saturday is mother's 85th birthday and my brother and I will go in. No big party allowed because she wants to save up her energy for her friends' 50th wedding anniversary party on Sunday. They will come out to my town to go to church at 10 a.m. and then the party at 12:30. I am going to take them around to some of the new parts of town they have not seen to see what my brother is talking about with the new construction in town. My father is going to be so not impressed with the mega-mansions as he thought 1600 sq ft in a 150 year old house (now 200 year old that I can see from my apartment house front door) was perfectly fine for 6 kids and two adults to live in...now a days people would have been calling child services for overcrowding, but we all thought we had plenty of room EXCEPT it did get tricky with only one bathroom until we put a half bath in the basement as we all started to enter our teens. 6 kids born between 1951 to 1961 - made for a bit of a crowd getting ready for school. Maybe that is why we learned to get ready without much "prep" time.

Talking to prep time - need to get going. Have a SPHERE event at the other school tonight. 15 from our school are going. Dinner and speaker. I am looking forward to it and the day ahead. Big project to do. I love a mission. Also keeps me busy as my future is being formulated on the cosmic level with whatever my current school and the other school are thinking about...very exciting.

Have a good Thursday!

Swim meet and swimming Sunday

Was off to the Hopmeadow Country Club to watch the "Sr Finals" of the country club swim teams championships. My co-worker's son walked away with 2-1st place and 1-2nd place in his events. And the 2nd place was by judge's ruling not the timers' time. The time listed by his 2nd place finish was faster than the time by the 1st place finisher...Oh well. He still had a good day. I enjoyed the day. But the forecast of rain for the weekend did not hold for where I was so I was looking for a pool I could jump in after the meet. The town pool was on mandatory shut down because of thunder (no lightening or rain) so I called a family friend with a pool and headed to her house. I swam in place and talked for an hour. Then stood outside the pool and talked with her and her daughter who stopped by when I was on my way out. Her daughter is the same age as my brother.

Then I got home to eat and watch my favorite TV show - Q&A with Brian Lamb!!! I do need to find out more about him. His guest was a man who had done an anti-Michael Moore documentary. The filmmaker was a classmate of Moore's in high school and could not let his hypocrisy go any longer. Very interesting.

As I drove from place to place yesterday, I listened to the Baseball Hall of Fame speeches - Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn - all good. I love the speeches!

Things that came into my thoughts this weekend were "a bit" random...why I put the milk on the left side of the main shelf of the refrigerator and the orange juice on the right...to what is our September book for book club? I must be working off an old list in that the September book is listed as Leap of Faith...I have to remember to go by the town hall and get sworn in before our September Economic Development Agency meeting but it won't be this Wednesday (the night the town hall is open after I get out of work). Co-worker can't go to Wesleyan on Tuesday so I will be going alone again. Wonder if sister #3's friend will come with his date again. Still have not made my reservations for St Lucia yet. Great PBS show on Penguins running right now. Every since that Penguin movie, I am taken with their life and times. They are so in tune with their natural surroundings and family structure.

No reading this weekend...could make for a wild week!
