Guitar Festival final night and more

With the 7:30 p.m. start time of the guitar concerts, I had time to kill both Thursday and Friday before I headed to the school. Thursday I stopped by our town library and read the NY Times, Hartford Courant and Wall Street Journal. The last reading getting interrupted by my son's phone call. I dropped what I was reading and headed outside to talk to him. On Friday I stopped at Staples to get my 2007-08 school year calendar so I can start tracking what I actually each day at work to track scheduling and create a job description that will make more sense than the present one for my position. Then I stopped to walk Elizabeth Park. The rose gardens had suffered a bit with the extreme heat of Tuesday and Wednesday, but it was still beautiful and peaceful. I saw a poster in The Pond House - the park restaurant - about a series of summer music events. I need to keep that in mind for the ones at Elizabeth Park every Wednesday night. Last night was also a "Full Moon Tour" night at the Park. I will have to see if they have the same type of event in July.
The concert performers last night were the students who studied all week with these incredible guitarists and the staff of U of H. Hartt School is an incredible area asset. It is such a magnet for me.
The news of the day is baffling to me on so many levels - flooding rains, wild fires, IPhone. The IPhone craze when put aside the meteorological events of the day seems a bit like a Nero playing while Rome burned...I hope I have my historical reference correct, but you get the message. Sports news - Frank Thomas and Jr Griffey versus the steroid players...I bought the Griffey rookie card and watched it go down and down in value as "allegedly" juiced players left him and the Big Hurt in the dust, but now maybe their stock will go up.
I thought it was curious that my first blogger post was June 27, 2006. I guess I "naturally" start new things on the school year start even when I was not in a school setting. I am torn today about another possible new start. A co-worker who is leaving for a new job, brought to my attention an opening in her department in the school she is going to - 20 minute train ride from NYC and a co-ed school...I am fighting with whether to apply or not. I am thinking if they could supply housing for me it would be worth the move. I will ponder that on my beach walk today.
Today my plan is the New Britain Museum of Art for the 10-12 free admission time on Saturday mornings then on to the beach. Then church in Old Lyme at 5 p.m. and then home or back to the beach depending on how I feel. Tomorrow "Evening" matinee.
That is my plan but I am still sitting here in my pajamas... Have a great weekend.

Interesting day on real and surreal levels

Majerus, plane crash, family gathering on the surreal; chipmunk, guitars, work on the real...don't know where to start.
In my dreams last night, I was on a plane on a runway that had a plane come over head and crash into the terminal right in front of our plane, but then I was at a family gathering at a home I don't recognize and I was meeting Rick Majerus for the first time. Very active dream night. I hope the meeting foreshadows St Louis in 2008!?
In real life, I had a good - quiet - work day. Many are on vacation using up those last days of vacation benefit. After work I walked, talked to sister #5 about her trip to Spain and France, and then stopped at my parents on my way to another concert at U of H. My parents had had an adventure with a chipmunk that got into the house and they chased it around (keep in mind they are 87 and soon to be 85...) and finally the chipmunk opted for a swim in one of the commodes so it was scooped up and released in the backyard. A full day - add their morning swimming routine for themselves, but in a pool - for the parents. Then on to U of H for another session of the guitar festival. The Mayes Guitar Duo who played lutes and guitars. I thought it was very good, but the performers - husband and wife - were VERY NOT pleased due to their guitars not staying in tune during the second half of the event. They did not come back after their last piece for a final bow. Another reason I liked it was the thought of being married, happy and in such sync with your spouse as I watched them play and interact during the performance.
I am going to pass on the Neville Brothers tonight. Weather AND going it alone make it not a draw for me. Maybe Aaron Neville will come to me in my dreams tonight. I will go to another session at the guitar festival tonight.
Still no word from my son. I am "visualizing" he is on a great adventure... And to another man on an adventure, it is NBA Draft day beginning tonight. I will keep my eye on what happens for JameSon. Lots has happened in his life in the relatively short time I have followed his basketball "career".
Have a good day.

Swimming, more guitars

A nice after work swim last night at my brother's house. Nobody home until I was getting ready to leave. No walk. It was definitely HHH and the pool drew me more than the asphalt. Also dropped off my niece's birthday card while I was there. I am very excited that my SIL asked if I would house sit while they are on vacation in August...morning and evenings in the pool!!! I am in heaven about that thought. I am thinking tonight I will make a stop at the town pool then head into the next in the series of the International Guitar Festival at U of H.
Forgot to mention that I got a new pair of Peeps flip flops from my cousin when I was helping move furniture last weekend. I love them!!! I am a lucky girl.
Had my annual evaluation at work...I am a good worker except my lack of "party sense" and my "test-i-ness" about someone else's last minute planning becoming my emergency. The boss put it in different terms, but - as I told the boss - at my age, I am who I am and this has been a very hard place for me to "read". We will see if I get a better read during this year ahead. I have planned my vacations for the year, so I guess I will stay to fill that "commitment". I will let the rest fill in the blanks between times off.
July 17; Oct 22-26; Dec 17-21; Jan 21-25; Feb 4-8; Mar 24-28; and Jun 12-17.
I got an email from the 1st Selectman saying that one committee has expressed interest in my joining them. I will have my Board of Selectmen interview on July 18...hope I pass. It reminds me of when we had to be "interviewed" to move into a trailer park in a not so stellar phase of my life in the early North Carolina days. I thought it was going to be embarrassing if I had done all I had done, but couldn't "qualify" to be a trailer park resident...good news, bad news - we passed.
Weekly Cosmic guidance: Welcome to Part Two of your outlook for the second half of 2007, Libra. We're checking up on how you're progressing with the long-term tasks you were assigned six months ago. So let me ask you: Have you been practicing discernment as you've explored the mysteries of variety? Have you been trying a host of different alternatives, but without dissipating your focus? The danger is the opportunity; the opportunity is the danger: In the next six months, you'll either refine your intelligence or waste your intelligence as you experiment with combining things that have never before been combined. You'll either embody the archetype of the promiscuous dilettante or the archetype of the versatile master of improvisation.
I needed to get my dictionary out to see if I was on track or not. I am hoping for the refine route and versatile master of improvisation.
In news today, it sounds like Pfizer is under legal fire in Nigeria for its testing of drugs that led to death of children. I guess that "Gardener" movie I went to see last year played out. I am uneasy about so many of the pharmaceutical companies and their policies. I can't remember where I read it of late, but we are the most addicted generation ever - on so many levels in my mind. I don't think that should be any surprise to anyone.
USL AD leaving for MD. I wish I was qualified for that job. To be Majerus' boss...my desire for that should also not be a surprise to anyone - on so many levels... I am watching the news for the NBA draft tomorrow. Also wondering when the college basketball schedules come out so I can start making my Jan/Feb vacation plans.
Have a good HHH day.
